This is a colour study of North Clifton Beach, done in preparation for a larger painting I’ve been working on. It helped me scope out the place and get a feel for it. I did about four or five of these studies, along with a few drawings and journal entries, all leading up to the bigger piece. I painted this at around 1:40 pm in February, towards the end of summer, when the days begin to shorten. If you visit the 'About' page and homepage you can see me working on the larger painting. The amber golden hue of the linseed oil and wax-finished western red cedar frame felt like it matched the painting’s mood perfectly.
