The Three Thumbs Lookout near Orford, on Tasmania’s east coast, is full of majestic gum trees. I’ve painted up there many times. I love how the golden hues of the gum leaves contrast with the blue Tasman sea beneath, complementary colours working their magic. As the sun moves across the sky, the trees near the water and in the mid-ground gradually shift to a soft violet-blue. I’m looking forward to heading back and painting there again sometime soon.
